Summary: A Real Eye Opener.
Comment: I was sixteen years old when I read this book. I had seen Helter Skelter and was interested in the story. I read this book after doing a term paper on twentieth century killers. I have read other reviews saying that this was a self-serving book. If that were so, Susan Adkins would have painted herself in a much better light. I found this book to be a real eye opener, especially for a girl who lived in a small central Texas town and was born after the Charles Manson family's spree. I am now a psychologist, and am good at reading people. I read this book again, and read it with the eye and mind of a psycholigist. I found this to be a truthful, heartfelt story, of a woman who after slipping through the cracks of society and hitting rock bottom with Charles Manson, found God. Now, she lives in the knowledge that even if society can never forgive her for what she's done, that God has. She now works ministering to other women in prison. I was touched by this book as a teenager, and it still touches me now.

Summary: A sick lady who belongs in prison forever
Comment: This book is a sham! Susan Atkins was so devilish in her participation in the Tate muders and even tasted Sharon's blood. She was also devilish during the trial and showed no remorse and laughed about her killings. Now she's "re-born"? SO what! Keep her in prison! She never deserves to get paroled! Killing a woman 8 months pregnant and smearing the blood all over her! Susan Atkins makes me sick!

Summary: Tempted to find a Copy? Don't bother.
Comment: I'm sure it's been said but it bears repeating: Skip it and go ahead and get another copy of 'Helter Skelter'. I found this one in a used book shop and jumped on it. I was dissapointed. As someone who reads true crime constantly, and is as familiar with the Manson case as are most part-time enthusiasts, there wasn't anything to here to recommend to you that you should invest in it.
There's nothing in it that you didn't already know. Atkins writes as if she's shrugging her shoulders the whole time, saying, "Uhmmm....well....you know how it was."
Yes. We do. We've read all about it. Now what do you have as far as personal insight, Susan? You were there, after all.
Nothing, unfortunately.
Too bad. The opportunity for a great biography or personal history of the notorious case was here. She doesn't capitalize on it in the least. Or, even more of a let down, she simply may not have anything worth writing. Hard to believe, but there it is nonetheless.
An empty, dissapointing read.
