Summary: All the information you need about feeding backyard birds.
Comment: Bird Food Recipes is a 32 book containing lots of information on feeding birds and making your own bird food. The main focus on the first half of the book is how to use bird food to attract specific birds to your yard. First, different diets of birds are described: seeds, fruit, bugs or nectar. Next, natural food sources are listed (trees and plants) and which birds each will attract. There is a detailed section on bird feeders, which describes what type of feeder to use for each type of bird food, as well as what height to put the feeder at to attract certain birds. Also, there is a good description on homemade birdfeeders. Which foods will attract specific species is outlined in detail. The section on how to keep away pests (squirrels, sparrows, rodents, hawks, cats) contains much useful information.

The second half of the book lists recipes for bird food, from cooked cereal to suet to bread. I think most people don't have the time or money to make their bird's special recipes, such as "Squiggly Wiggly Stew" (mealworm larvae, bean sprouts, alfalfa sprouts). However there are more practical recipes e.g. Hummingbird Nectar and Sweet Suet Cakes. There's also a special section at the end on Orphan Birds, which is good to have around for any animal lover, just in case.

Even though most of the recipes are for die-hard bird loves, with extra time and money on their hands, this book is a very compact and useful reference on feeding birds and attracting them to your yard. It is also as much information as anyone needs- no need to buy a more complex, and expensive, book.
