Summary: COMPLEX AND DETAILED
Comment: These lectures were delivered at The Hague in 1913. In them, Steiner attempted to elucidate the modifications that the human being undergoes when practicing the exercises provided in his books Knowledge Of The Higher Worlds and Occult Science - An Outline. He thus goes into the minutest of detail in describing the physical changes, which includes becoming inwardly more mobile and more vitally alive. Different kinds of foods are also discussed. Lecture 3 deals with the etheric changes with special reference to the senses, whilst Lecture 4 deals with time and the seasons. Lecture 7 contains an interesting look at the Manichaean Bishop Faustinus, the 16th century personality Johannes Faust and Goethe's Faust. Lecture 8 deals with cosmic consciousness or the paradise imagination as Steiner calls it. He concludes with an encouragement to those pursuing esoteric development, that it is the right thing to do and in harmony with the evolution of the universe. I found the book to be very technical, detailed and a bit long-winded, perhaps because I do not understand all the terminology and references. I have the highest regard for this writer, but unless you're familiar with Theosophy this book will be difficult to read. Many of his other works are more accessible and digestible to the average reader.

Summary: Road map to the next stage in evolution.
Comment: It is of practical importantance to know in advance the effect that esoteric exercises will have on the souls of those who choose to practice them. This book could only have been written by a master, for it gives complex details of the spirual changes that can occur in the soul when exercises in esoteric development are practiced. It allows one to recognise when real changes are occuring, to trust them, and grow with them. This book can serve as a sure guide for the seeker in a world where true masters are in short supply. The descriptions are brillant in their completness and invaluable for those pursuing inner self-development. I am personally grateful that Dr. Steiner gave so much detail, making possible the journey of our spirit to its home a more sure one.
