Summary: Very Good Resource, but "Jerry Osborne" tops it
Comment: As an "insider" I find this publication to be a very good source of basic information regarding the approximate values of collectable vinyl records. "Goldmine", of course, is best known for the by-weekly collectors' magazine, and at that it is peerless, the top of the list. As a research tool and viable price guide I give the "book" only 4 stars. The information listed often shows figures far different from other publishers (who seem in agreement with one another, yet at odds with Goldmine). As a longtime collector and dealer I can spot an unrealistic price when I see one. Goldmine has plenty of such "surprises", easily missed by a novice.
For the beginner or "shopper", the Goldmine Price Guide is a cost-effective investment. If you are a "pro" or wish to enter the ranks of the serious record collectors, then Jerry Osborne's price guides are a much more reliable "collector's Bible". "Rockin' Records" (published by Osborne) has recently been renamed "Official Price Guide To Records". The most current edition is the 2001 version, but the 2003 should be coming out by February.
Owning various reference books about collectable vinyl records, I can recommend Goldmine as a "starter". It definitely carrys the BIG NAME, if not necessarily the absolute reliable figures.****

Summary: A Wonderful Book for the Beginner.
Comment: I found this book to be extremely informative, even though it may be missing many artists and albums in its price guide. The information pertaining to what to look for and what *not* to look for helped me immensely when I decided that I wanted to become a collector of vinyl.

Comment: I am very surprised about this issue missin many imprtant singers and has alot of wrong information the 4th addition is much much better than this issue.
