Summary: Great Book!
Comment: My wife and I used this book to get her green card. She was from England and I am an American Citizen. It walked us through every step and she now has a Green Card.

Summary: Immigration Attorney, California Certified Specialist
Comment: I found this book to be out of date and full of bad advice. For instance, while a person who is in legal status can skip the sections on fiance visas and processing at the consulate (as one review comments), their case will be delayed by over a year if they follow the advice presented in this book of first filing the relative petition (I-130) and then later after that petition is approved filing the adjustment of status.
This book seems to be written for the couple who is already in trouble, perhaps already in deportation, and in my opinion those people should not be relying on a do it yourself publication. I think Nolo Press does a disservice to its readers to pretend that couples can do this process by themselves without the assistance of an attorney specializing in their locale. In the post 9-11 era, preparing an immigration case without the assistance of an immigration attorney is like doing your own brain surgery.
Unfortunately there are numerous errors due to changes in the law and changes in procedures which make following the advice in this book a scary proposition. Further, I could find nothing in the author's biography which indicated to me that they specialize in marriage cases. Because the author has also written books on other topics, including student visas and business law, it appears that they do not in fact specialize with marriage cases. Although the Bay Area attorneys the author has thanked are frequently seen in the immigration courts and at 630 Sansome Street, it seems to me that without the author actually being in the trenches, the battle cannot be described with the same degree of accuracy.

Summary: Love & INS
Comment: I came to US to finish some of my studies and...fell in love with an American man...Love can conquer and move mountains, but not the INS! This book guided us step by step through the application process. It's very well written and easy to understand the "law" language.
The author gives many sample situations and necessary forms.
This book made our love life much easier...check out other Nolo books, they have an incredible collection, a book for any kind of topic !
