Summary: For a textbook on Cataloging, not bad
Comment: I disagree with another reviewer's assessment that this book is bland. It is the most readable cataloging textbook I've encountered. Not that that's saying a whole lot, I suppose, but I would highly encourage any beginning cataloging student to purchase this book in addition to any of your required texts. It really was a help to me. The AACR2r was just not instructional enough, and not meant to be read or used solely as a textbook. While you probably won't read it cover-to-cover, it truly does an excellent job of introducing a beginning student to a complex (and often tedious) area of library study.

Summary: A book for cataloguers
Comment: I found this book to be an extremely useful text. The coverage is comprehensive, dealing with the principles of cataloguing, development of cataloguing codes, description and access, subject analysis and organization. It explains and simplifies the AACR2 rules. A very useful feature is the linking of the ISBD elements to the related MARC fields/subfields. In addition, I appreciate the visual clarification of the content and formatting rules that is provided by the abundant examples and figures depicting bibliographic records in card and MARC format. As a cataloguer and trainer, I keep a copy of this text along with the other tools which I consult regularly.

Summary: No Thank you!
Comment: Cataloging is not for everyone and this book definetely has a small audience. The writing style and prose is so poor and bland that one keeps drifting away to more interesting library science fields such as library management or reference work.
