Gatewood was begining to explore the edges in the late 60s and early 70s, lurking alongside any events happening on the city streets: protests, marches, fairs, parades, celebrations. New Orleans and NYC provided moist atmospheres for expression, much of that 'caught' here by Gatewood. While on assignment for Rolling Stone in London, Gatewood got to hang with Burroughs and Gysin.
