Summary: The Love Story, As It Should Be
Comment: This book faces children with both honesty and tenderness...a rare combination when dealing with children. You can either be honest about kids and admit that they can be nasty little creatures like everybody else, or you can be tender and succumb to the popular myth of the "pure and innocent child" we see all over the media. (The media, those monsters!...said facetiously.) Somehow this book manages both.
The love between Serge (the boy) and Jonathan (the suffering artist) is handled well, with not a hint of artifice. It is also one of the few truly convincing love stories I have ever read. I will not say that sensitive readers should avoid it; I think that only sensitive readers could truly appreciate its beauty and sorrow. Squeamish readers, however, stay away; there are semi-explicit sex scenes between a man of thirty and a boy who ranges in age, over the course of the novel, from six to ten. With that obligatory disclaimer, I have to give this book the highest rating and my most sincere recommendation.

Summary: Nicely Told Story, but Haunting and Desperate
Comment: This book is about the forbidden love between a man and a boy. It is charmingly told, and eloquent. However, the story shows the tragic emotional effect that an adult relationship can have on a child when they are too young to deal with the powerful emotions that come with it. It is indeed a tragedy for all parties involved. Johnathan obviously needs the boy to satisfy his own emotional needs, not out of love.

Summary: Wonderful story
Comment: This book, a story of a love affair about a almost thirty artist and an eight year old boy. This novel gives a kind of matter-of-fact portrayal of a sensitive
theme which is a alternative to the hysteria surrounding the taboo in English speaking countries.
Like most lovers, Jonathon and Serge create their own microcosm of domestic and erotic ritual, which shatters on contact with society. Tony Duvert's Novel is
fantastic because he makes his characters sensational, forcing readers to accept the relationship between Jonathan and Serge on it's very terms.
