Comment: This book is not really about giraffes. It is a memoir of the French Resistance, by a participant. (The title comes from a code phrase which was broadcast by the BBC to communicate with Resistance members).

The author joined the Resistance in his late teens, and eventually had his own father under his command. He worked with many famous people including Camus and Malraux. The book gives a good sense of day-to-day life as experienced by a Resistance leader.

This book won several prizes in France, and deserves to be read by an American audience.
