Comment: The cover of this cassette pack promises it to be the next step in mastering conversaitional French. Actually, I found it to be a great confidence builder and one of the best French audio programs I've listened to. The four cassettes are basically a radio play with one continuous story that is interspersed with practice elements, including a very likeable guide who comments on both the practice lessons and the story line. (I did, however find some of the practice lessons a bit tedious.)

In the continuing episodes of the program, the story of Odile Vallier, a Parisian, unfolds as she gets involved with building an exchange program for Algerian students. I found it confidence-building, for though not all the words were familiar to me, the story line was easy to follow, and the context taught more french than I realized. Reading the Listening Guide and using the Handbook that accompany the 4 cassettes helped, but listening to the story was more than enjoyable. It helps one to absorb French as you would in France.

As far as level of learning is concerned, I would imagine it's strong intermediate, as I've had high school and some college French, (many years ago) and it prepared me very well for last year's trip to France. I've looked for other programs that have this format, but it seems they're non-existant. Tant pis.
