Summary: First actual erbildungsroman-Parsifal, Peter sellers movie
Comment: This book is fantastic, if you can get through the hhistorical passages (it did happen during the tthirty-years war). This book is an example of an erbildiungs roman, a story of a person growing up and growing out. A lot like Parsifal (i've heard) or more exactly like Candide. Also some hints of Muchhausen's fantastic adventures. If you can get it, and you have some patience, you'll find this one of the better books of all time! It should be noted that this story was first printed as a series in a newpaper/journal shortly after the discovey of the printing press. Also, the next book in the series (the runagate courage) is the founding part of the "Three Penny Opera" and other German novels od the period. Courage is the mother! Also there is another adventure about Hopalong, one of simple's sidekicks. Please try it, you'll be amazed. [email protected]!!
