Summary: Great hero, but the heroine didn't communicate enough
Comment: Lord Freddie is a wonderful hero. Everyone else thinks that Anne Webster had a child out of wedlock, and they treat her like dirt and call her names. Even her father treated her badly by the way he drafted his will. Freddie goes out of his way to treat Anne well. She was, after all, his first love.

However, Anne has a secret. The child isn't hers -- but she refuses to share this information with the people around her. She had good reasons for not telling the local gossips the truth... but at the same time, she should have told Freddie!

If you hate romances with overly cute children, don't be afraid of this one. Ian is adorable, but not cloying.

I wish I could rate this as a 3.5 because it's not really a 3, but Anne's secrecy keeps this from being a real 4.

Comment: Nice guys finish first where it counts. And Lord Frederick (Freddie to all but his overbearing mother, who insists on using his proper name, George Harold Arthur Pennington) is a nice guy. He's spent his whole life, since inheriting his title as a boy, trying to do what's right and what will make those around him happy. His mother and a scheming society miss mistake his nobility of spirit for wimpiness at their peril, as Freddie demonstrates dramatically when he turns the ton on its ear by championing his childhood friend, ostracized 'single mother' Anne. Yet Freddie's strength of character is such that he convinces everyone to accept Anne. Now, if only he could convince Anne to accept him.... A fun and fabulous read, loaded with the witty observations and zany secondary characters Ms. Bray is becoming known for.
