Summary: Another intelligent thriller from Steve Alten
Comment: Simply put, Steve Alten is one of my favorite authors. He writes intelligent, well researched thrillers with believable characters. His first two books, Meg and The Trench, which were about Megalodon sharks surviving to the present day, are truly great reads. With his new book, Domain, Steve has managed to top himself.
With amazing detail, he has fashioned a story dealing with an ancient Mayan prophesy which predicts the end of the world. Julius Gabriel, who had a real life counterpart, has researched the Mayan calendar and has linked it to mysterious sites around the globe. If his theory is correct, humanity will perish on December 21, 2012. Before he can attempt to stop this armageddon, he dies. His son takes up the banner, but is locked in a mental hospital for his efforts. With the help of a psychology graduate student, Michael is able to continue his father's work.
Domain is not only fun to read, you'll find yourself learning a great deal about the Mayans and many other historical mysteries. If you haven't read Steve Alten yet, you have missed out on some great reading. Also visit his website for even more information on his books. Now if only we didn't have to wait so long for the sequel to Domain...

Summary: Domain Dominates!
Comment: Domain is a thrill a minute ride into sci-fi & adventure. Domain has touches of Indiana Jones, a dab of the Exorcist 3, and wraps up as the intelligent version of Independence Day. Do not try to predict the ending. You will not - nay, you could not see it coming. Hang on for all the surprises, twists & turns as Domain barrels along. Domain is possibly the most researched book ever. Reading Domain will scare you as you ask yourself "Hey! Is this stuff going to happen?" Steve Alten has done his homework. Read and then re-read all the factual frightening events that the ancient Mayan calendar has foretold. And now it is predicting the exact date our earth will come to an end. For all the critics who thought Steve Alten only writes shark books, think again. Steve may have found a new niche. He excells at a book that could easily be classified as sci-fi & adventure. Only his third novel, Domain is researched and written as if from an author with 20 or more novels to his credit. From the research to the characterization, Steve Alten writes like a man slightly ahead of his time. Domain is easily the best book I've read in years. I simply could not put it down. And I had two thoughts upon the completion of Domain: I don't know if I can wait until the next book & Domain screams at the top of it's lungs "movie!" If Hollywood doesn't snatch this one up, someone is asleep at the wheel.

Summary: Great fictional and actual history story line
Comment: If I could I would rate this book a 6 but it would not let me. Mr. Alten's use of Christian and Mayan mythology work hand in hand to provide a very engrossing story. So far I have read all of his books and love all of them so much they all get a 6 from me except for the newest book Resurrection. It was a highly unusual story and all but I could only rate it at 4. I would recomend reading everything he has written.
