Summary: Out of date in some areas, but an ok addition to others...
Comment: This reference book on goats is not the best I've seen, but has some very nice points to it. It is out of date in several areas, the most important being the issue of mineral supplementation (the problem with copper being the most glaring.) But that info can be found in other places, like newslists on the Internet and so on.

The book is smaller than most, with only 93 pages, but has some very nice illustrations and photos. The topics covered include: Buying Goats; Housing and Equipment; Feeding; Care and Management; Health Maintenance and Sickness; Breeding and Raising Young; Goat Products; and Goat Breeds of the World.

All in all this is an ok book, but should not be the primary resource for someone entering into raising goats.

Comment: This book is practical and up to date. It has sound advice that covers nearly all the fields of goats. It has an index of useful addresses of goat books, magazines, associations, and suppliers. The New Goat Handbook is one of the best books on goats.

Summary: A nice little reference
Comment: The compact size of this book makes it easy to keep handy, and it is full of useful information. Some may (through personal experience) disagree with parts of it, but it will be invaluable to any new owner as it covers such an array of topics. The easily readable style doesn't talk down to you, but is as if you have a friend talking to you. I think it is excellent.
