Summary: Good book! Full of personal accounts.
Comment: I thought Meier's book was a good introduction into urabn elementary teaching especially if you're a beginning teacher or simply interested in education. It's not a handbook by any means, but Meier covers valid issues that come up through his experience as a 1st grade co-teacher that were insightful and helpful to me as a beginning teacher.

Summary: A glimpse into one urban elementary classroom
Comment: I did not know what to expect when I ordered this book but since I was about to start a job in a tough urban high school, I thought it couldn't hurt. What I got was a book that focused on one man's elementary classroom and his specific day to day experiences. This is a heartfelt, and well written account of those experiences that would be good reading for those interested in becoming an urban elementary teacher or understanding the unique challenges of this job. I would not recommend it however for those teaching high school or middle school since that is a whole different ball game!
