Summary: Extremely Enlightening, Encouraging, and Easy to Read
Comment: This book would be helpful not just to academicians but to any new writers who are targeting specific professional groups--those who are providing helpful insights in a field, and who are not trying to write the "novel of the century." In addition to providing direction for getting your book published, the authors have clearly and concisely explained, in an easy-to-read style, what is required of an author during the publishing process--that phase between acceptance of a manuscript and delivery of the book to its readers. They have outlined the stages of production, and identified the different people at a publishing house with whom an author must interact at those various stages. They emphasize that an author's work is not done when the contract is signed--there is still much to do. I found it very helpful to know about these requirements, especially in anticipating my workload and planning my time.

I would like to see a second edition in which information that is available about publishers on the Internet is addressed. Information about publishers has become much more readily available since this book was released in 1993, but should it be relied upon or are there better options for contacting publishers?

Rating: 4
Summary: A "Must have" for academic writers
Comment: The authors are experienced editors in the academic book publishing business. They have a wealth of experience, and that experience shows in the very detailed and practical advice they give. The aim of this book is to maximize the success of academics who wish to begin a book-length writing project. This book includes all the basics. This is an essential for the bookshelf of the academic writer.
