Summary: Wow...?
Comment: Booklist seems to say it all; frankly, the text wanders from room to room like J.T. looking for trouble. The illustrations are knock-out quality, however, and almost make up for the rest of the book. I'm not sure what Ms. Pegram was looking for, but the characters in the book are far from sympathetic.

I try to approach books from several aspects, from redeeming qualities to post-partum "dialogue-ability" with the kids. The former isn't really fulfilled, by my best guesses, but there is plenty to discuss with the kids such as how they would react if they had to put up with a brother like J.T.; this is usually followed up with, "Guess what? You WERE a J.T. when you were little!"

I would really like to read more by Ms. Pegram; in the meantime, "Daughter's Day Blues" was a bit of a downer.

Summary: Everyone needs their own special day.
Comment: I thought Ms. Pegram, caught an innocence that is not often found in children today. After seeing so much disfunction, Phyllis, brings a refreshing constructive energy, recapturing the child we all long to see. I also appreciated how the young characters were able to display wholesome sibling love, yet stress the need for parents to love each child as an individual. The pictorials are excellent. I especially enjoyed how Phyllis and JT's face was brought to life. What a great story for any age group. Every family will enjoy this book, and everyone could use there own special day, just like Phyllis in Daughter's Day Blues.
