Comment: The book consists of two parts: first the theory (by Bredfeldt), then practical advice (by Shields).
Bredfeldt presents the different methods and approaches that exist (fair and concise), then takes a position with a clear explanation as to why this position is taken. The book will answer any questions about what approach is "biblical" or right. The authors are very objective, very balanced, and very biblical at the same time.
A college class could not be more thorough (plus, the book is never wordy or boring).
The practical side is thorougly practical.
If you ever talk to people about their "problems", stop guessing around what to say and stop going just by your "instincts." Read this book and get the full scope on things. Much of what you say might remain the same but you will feel a lot more comfortable that you are indeed providing "good counsel."
I would call it a "must read."
