Summary: Warm and Wonderful
Comment: Catherine Marshall's loving tribute to her mother Lenora Wood's time in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee teaching the poor children of Cutter Gap and the effect it had on her life is captured with warmth and beauty in this fine audio book. It is made all the more special as it is read by Kellie Martin. She starred in the two hour film and the origional series, and for most people, including myself, will always be Christy Huddelston. It is rare when an audio book is this good.
Nothing is ever a substitute for reading the book but having done both I can honestly say you have to own this. It is an excellent companion to the book and the series and is nice to have around. Just as she did in the series, Kellie Martin perfectly captures the great beauty of these mountains and the poverty of it's people. Occasional and brief interludes of banjo music frame this heartwarming, and sometimes heartbreaking, thinly disguised biography of this young and exuberant 19 year old girl who falls in love with the children of Cutter gap.
This seems more like a telling of a story than a reading and that in itself separates it from other audio books. Martin captures the joy and humor as well as the conflict and resentment as the school and church butted heads over moonshine. She captures the romance that begins to blossom and Christy's divided heart. This may be warm family entertainment but it has substance as well. Those who are fans of the beloved bestseller and the fine series that was to good to stay on television for long will not be dissappointed.
The emotions of Christy and her resolve to stay in this place and teach are lovingly brought to life here by Kellie Martin and the wonderful words of Catherine Marshall. Particularly moving is the relationship of Christy and Fairlight Spencer, a strong but delicate woman who offers her friendship. As her light begins to fade into the shadows it is truly moving.
I highly recommend this one. It's a loving tribute to a life devoted to children. Filled with love and joy this is one audio book you'll savor and enjoy over and over...

Summary: Encouraging story!
Comment: While reading Christy, I couldn't help but wish I could be as bold and courageous as this nineteen-year-old missionary teacher. Christy, a young woman beginning her journey in faith as she moves from a well-respected town into a mountainous chaos, has always felt she was more than just a nice dress at fancy tea parties, and proves herself true in this inspirational story. Defying her parent's wishes, Christy leaves her home and moves to Cutter Gap, a crude community in which the children are in deep need to learn. The people of Cutter Gap are extremely proud of their heritage and wonder about this new woman from the city coming to teach their children. Ms. Alice Henderson, a woman who helps with the mission, is Christy's inspiration to keep going even when she believes failure has beaten her. David Grantland, the preacher of the town, is immediately drawn to Christy's courage and independence. Dr. McNeil, the only doctor in the community, is also drawn to Christy and the light that shines through her as she finally becomes an accepted part of Cutter Gap. As she teaches a classroom full of encouraging young faces, she also learns herself that you have to keep trying and never give up on your dreams. When tragedy hits her with all its might, the love for one man will bring her back to the world, to him. This tale of courage and love will pull at your heart!

Summary: Good book
Comment: I will have to agree and state that this novel is an all American classic. I had a lovely time reading it and couldn't stop reading. I love Christy's enthusiasm in the small mountain town. All the characters were constructed very nicely. It inspired me to watch the television show.
The only problem however, was all the preaching and the finding of god. I found myself skipping the parts about the Bible and what not.
Other than that, it was a very very very good book.
