Summary: Enough statistics to keep a fan happy in the short run
Comment: "Baseball Top 10" offers up more than 200 Top 10 lists (although there are a whole bunch of "Last 10" lists for things like "Last 10 A.L. Cy Young Award Winners," "Last 10 Little League World Series Winners," etc.). The statistics are through the 2001 Major League Baseball post-season and World Series, which means they are valid for anther month or so. The lists run the gamut from Most Career Wins (Cy Young 511) and Most Home Runs in a Season (Barry Bonds 73) to rather creative lists of Most Hits, Last Name Johnson (Bob Johnson, 1933-45, 2,051) and Our Favorite Baseball Movies ("The Natural"). The book is divided into sections looking at Players, Teams, Games, World Series, and then Ballparks, Fans, and More. This book is worth a look and you are certain to find something you would want to share with a friend (The New York/San Francisco Giants have the most team victories all-time with 9,676), but this is not a book you are likely to re-read a lot. Then again, while you are waiting for the Elias Sports Bureau to come up with a fact you can always flip through the pages of this real quick and try and find the Most Lopsided World Series Wins. Pay attention as you read through this book because there are some interesting if unintentional facts. For example, did you know that of the Top 10 2001 Batting Averages Among Foreign-Born Players, only four of those players were "Active through 2001"? (Think about it.) As with most books produced by DK, "Baseball Top 10" is real pretty to look at.
