Summary: Horrible...
Comment: These books were so stupid. I don't know what the fuss has always been about. The world is one-dimensional, unbelievable and paper-dollish; the dwarf is so cliched as to be laughable; Cattie Brie is by far the dumbest name and most annoying character in the annals of fantasy; the barbarian is (again) cliched and ridiculous; the halfling (as usual since Tolkien) is absurd and annoying; the battle scenes are boring, unrealistic and go on forever; the villain is like something out of a bad Saturday morning cartoon. Just pathetic. I started reading the Dark Elf trilogy, dying to know why everyone thinks Salvatore is so great. I couldn't even finish the first book. Just horrid...

Summary: Drizzt and Friends
Comment: These 3 books center around a good-aligned drow elf named Drizzt. They're high-adventure books set in the Forgotten Realms, a unique and complex fantasy world. If you've never read in the Forgotten Realms before, here is a pretty good place to start.
With that said, these are not the first books Drizzt's chronologically published life. I recommend you find Salvatore's earliest books dealing with Drizzt, and proceed forward, but if you prefer to just pick a trilogy and start there, then THIS is the trilogy to start with. Important side characters that will factor in heavily in Drizzt's life are carefully and thoughtfully detailed in these 3 novels.
Plot reviews can be found in abundance by looking up the individual titles, so I won't waste people's time with yet another synopsis of events. Suffice it to say that the action is gripping, the characters are well-fleshed out, and there are great plot twists and turns. A word of caution: although this is a pretty good place to jump into the series, you may feel a bit confused at times (because it assumes you are familiar with some backstory), but it should not detract from your overall enjoyment.
I give each of these books 5 stars. They are my personal favorites in the Drizzt series.
