Summary: The best way I've ever seen to describe how magic works.
Comment: This is the first "Magic" book I've ever read and couldn't get enough of it. It took me 16 days to finish which is a record for me. When I finished it, I went to the book store to see if the second book was out yet. I'm drooling in impatientness for "...Ice Age Cycle, book II" to come out!
Rating: 5
Summary: After The Brothers War, before the Masquerade Cycle.
Comment: The story to the history of Magic the Gathering started off in the Artifacts Cycle with "The Brothers War" and has continued into the Weatherlight Cycle with "Rath and Storm." The story between it begins in The Ice Age Cycle with "The Gathering Dark."
A novice mage by the name of Jodah travels the land of Terisiare learning the basics and five different types of magic from his ally, Sima, a well-knowledged blue mage. The story tells of the period of time from The Dark, when magic was more or less not welcome at home, especially by the church.
Read of the true story behind the tale of Lord Ith, Mairsil the Pretender, Master Artificer Barl and Jodah and their pasts in "The Gathering Dark."

Summary: Oh, it's good
Comment: Needless to say, this is the best book I have ever read. I haven't read any other fantasy novels, but that doesn't matter. Jeff Grubb did a great job on writing this book, and I've heard that the many other books written by him are also very good. One thing I like about this book is how is explains situations just enough to get a grip on them, and then moves to the next. Every chapter introduces a newer circumstance which fits perfectly into the storyline so the reader understands everything that's going on, and the ending has an equally good climax.
The only thing I can think of that I didn't like about this novel is how Jeff Grubb began and finished scenes too quickly. It seems like there's a constant rush from one thing to the next, which makes it a little more difficult to get a grasp on the situation. Also, this book is more action than anything. Another thing that's good about this book is that you know just about as much of what's going on as the main character knows is going on. So, If you like fantasy, this is the book for you. If you never read books like me and are wanting a decent book to read while in the car going somewhere, try this one out. You won't be dissatisfied, trust me.
