Summary: Reliving Baseball's Recent Past
Comment: Rossi obviously has a passion for baseball, and he does an excellent job of describing each season between 1946 and 1960. The work is filled with loving detail and minutiae of the kind that baseball fans will appreciate. Scholars of sports history, however, will find the book somehwat superficial, based as it is largely on secondary sources, especialy David Voigt and Harold Seymour. Rossi never quite lives up to the books subtitle--"Off the Field Changes in Baseball"--, for the bulk of the volume is an old-fashioned narrative of what happened on the field in the years between the end of World War II and baseball's decision to expand beyond sixteen teams.
