Summary: Six in one hand, half a dozen in the, aw (...) it.....
Comment: The printing quality of this book is so bad it's scary. Muddy black lines, poorly registered colors, colors not even matching from the original books, what a shame. Steranko's so p.o.'ed over the printing job, he's threatened to spit on anybody who asks him to autograph this book. Jeez!
That said, there's nothing else like this kind of comic art or storytelling. The artwork, once you get past the bad printing, is breathtaking. Steranko's art and layouts are some of the most offbeat since Will Eisner in his heyday. Swingin' Stan Lee gave Steranko a wide birth to create with, and the results are nothing short of legendary. If you're a big fan of Mario Bava's "Diabolik" you'll love this book. It has the same amazing Pop/OP Art damage as that wild movie.
After Steranko left Fury he drew both Capt. America and the X-Men, and needless to say, those particular issues were mind-blowers as well. Marvel should compile all those particular issues in one big book. Just ask them to print it better so Jim won't have to spit on anybody.

Summary: Who Is Scorpio?
Comment: This is definitive Nick Fury, which reprints Nick Fury Agent Of SHIELD 1-3 and 5. This was written and drawn by the great Jim Steranko, who incorporated moire images and photo montages in his artwork and made Nick Fury into a dashing, updated hero who could give James Bond a run for his money. A lot of modern comics artists use a lot of the techniques that originated with Steranko in drawing today's comics.

The coloring of this reprint seems more vivid (often too vivid) than I remember it. Probably due to the use of newsprint for the original comics version and this higher grade paper for the reprint edition. To me, it doesn't distract from the story as much as for the other reviewer. I noted that the "cover gallery" appeared be created from copies of the comic books and not from the original artwork.

The storytelling was unique for its day. A great theme Steranko uses is how the everyman can get caught up in events beyond his control and play an important part in the story. Comics creators today should use these stories as example of how great storytelling can be when everything is clicking.

By the way, I know who Scorpio was.

Summary: Steranko Gold Trashed by Publisher
Comment: Jim Steranko produced four of my favourite comic books back in 1968. These comics had great stories, great detailed art, superlative colour, imaginative layouts and mind-bending covers...some of best ever done in comics. This book reprints those four comics...the stories and layouts are still intact...but the colours have been changed and lazily applied, the line detail is gone, and the covers have been trashed almost beyond recognition.
