Summary: It worked for me!
Comment: I thought that the book was great. I passed the CCNA exam first try. The simulation questions are a bit weak though. The exam questions were much more difficult. The material is well organized. Todd does a great job explaining IP addressing and subnetting! The practice exams were great as well.

Summary: Must read prior to taking CCNA exam
Comment: Granted I've worked in the telecommunications arena for a little over 20 years, but I had virtually no direct exposure to routers prior to reading this book. Received the book about four months ago. Studied it continuously, taking all chapter tests each weekend, over and over until I could make over 90% on each test. Then took the practice test the same way. There are errors, but none so dramatic that will drive you off course. I also used the Virtual Lab. It's okay to give you basic command experience, but naturally doesn't substitute for real hands-on router experience. I'm lucky to have a router lab that I can use (three 2500's and two 4000's) that made all the difference in the world. After reading the book cover to cover three times and testing as I stated above, the results were gratifying: 924/1000 Great book, but you've really got to continually drill yourself until you feel 100% confident, then go blow the test away. I've already bought Lammle's CCNP books, looking forward to completing the next level.

Comment: Overall, this is a very good study guide for the CCNA 2.0 exam. Well-written and easy to read, this organized tome mamanges to touch upon nearly all of the important topics covered in the actual test. However, despite it's clear explanations and extensive coverage, a prior understanding of--or experience with--networking and internetworking concepts is required for maximum benefit.
One highlight for me was the sample test CD-ROM which is jam-packed with test questions, flash cards, and even the entire contents of the book in digital format. The test questions themselves follow the gist of the real exam fairly closely and provide some insight into how the questions will appear to potential test-takers. With the Cisco exam format, being familar with how the test questions are presented and understanding what the question is truly asking cannot be understated.
Despite it's many pluses, the book does contain a number of syntax errors and editorial snafus (for example, incorrect answers to review/test questions and typos) which will no doubt confuse/irritate novices. While this seems to be generally accepted with technical books (although I'm not sure why), in the case of a second edition volume such as this, it's particularly hard to fathom.
In all, I found this book very useful, both as a reference and study aid for CCNA 2.0, and can confidently add that it helped me pass the exam. Recommended.
