Rating: 4
Summary: clear, concise, accurate
Comment: I sat the 70-098 exam in August 2001, and passed with 80 percent. (the required is 68) I read this book from cover to cover twice, and then I read the Microsoft Self Paced Training book once. The two books were very similar in content, but the Sybex book had a much better format and was probably the only one neccessary to pass the exam. Do the review questions, but they are a bit easy compared to the exam, so definitely try some other questions off the net to identify any weak areas, and then re-read that part of the book. Good value, and nicely written.

Rating: 2
Summary: Sloppy
Comment: I found many aggravating errors/inconsistencies in this book. Many typos and contradictions makes one onder how throughly this book was proofread. Further, many topics are simply a rehashing of a number concepts covered in other books of the same publisher, such as the osi model. These topics are not on the exam and serve only to waist the time of anyone interested in the material on the exam. On a positive note, there is a large amount of information contained in this book, however, I feel it is most useful as a reference guide rather than as an exam prep.

Rating: 3
Summary: Insufficient
Comment: As other reviewers have noted, this book simply is not - as it claims - "everything you need to know to pass the Windows 98 Exam". The reason I still gave it 3 stars is that it is just as good as the other 2 books I have read on the same subject; the standard for these books seems to be fairly low considering their grandiose claims.

If you are trying to pass these tests on your own, then this book is fine... as long as it's not your only source. I have found no book that is sufficient by itself; you might be able to pass the test, but you will not have been exposed to all the material if you buy only one book. Buy any two good ones (SAMS has a good one) and then review with the book from the Exam Cram series. If you grasp all of the material in those sources, you will perform very well on the test.
