Rating: 5
Summary: Worth every penny
Comment: I don't believe in ever giving 4 or 5 star ratings, except
where it's really warranted... and there's only about
6 or 7 books in the world that I would ever give that rating
to.... This book is one of them. It's a delightful read.

This is basically a collection of IEEE Papers dating from
the late 1970's to mid 1990's, coming from IEEE Communications
Magazine and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.

If you are an undergraduate student interested in
communications, in general, this should be in your library.
For the [spendy] bux, a paltry price, it's worth a half dozen
text books... The
papers are on a wide variety of topics... DONT LET THE
TITLE OF THE BOOK FOOL YOU!!! It's NOT just about cellular
radio. The papers are on all aspects of communications,
and many of them are OUTSTANDING TUTORIALS... which is why
they were specifically selected to be in this book... hence
the subtitle "A Book of Selected Readings."

If your interested in path loss calculations, you'll find
great papers on that topic. If you want to know a little
bit about modelling of fading in cellular enviroments
(rician and rayleigh fading, etc..) this has lots on that.
If your interested in basic modulation techniqes and
what their benefits and problems are... (i.e. why do we
use GMSK or PI/4 modulation etc..) in cellular radio, without
having to wade through big fat textbooks... these tutorial
papers explain it from a historical perspective... i.e. from
before these digital cellular standards were even passed.

And my personal favorite paper... Bernard Sklars' masterpiece,
yet elegantly slim 6 page tutorial, "Defining, Designing,
and Evaluating Digital Communication Systems"... which is
a must read for all undergraduate students.
