Summary: Characters You Will Love!
Comment: Bookends is a heart warming story that has some of the best character development I have ever read. The story revolves around college friends and where they are 10 years after gradation. The story focuses on changes that people have made and the sort of revolutions that have occurred in their lives. Cath, the main character, lives her life with the comfort of her group of friends. She never lets herself leave this comfort and in doing so creates walls that are so high even the nicest of men have trouble reaching her. Once she starts to follow her dream, of owning a bookshop, the walls start to fall and you find yourself praying that all the characters hold together. This is a wonderful book that I would recommend for a raining weekend read!

Summary: Don't waste your time...
Comment: I somehow managed to make it through this book. The ending was horrible, and should have never passed the editors or publishers. I put this book down several times because of the wa the characters were being developed. The one I truly liked was the one that was hurt at the end. It also made it look like no man was a decent man, yes good men are hard to find, but I don't believe everyone of them would be horrible. It looks like Jane was in a "I don't like men" mood when she wrote this. I was sad that I wasted my money on this. There are other British Books to buy, just don't buy this one!

Summary: A book that goes nowhere... FAST...
Comment: I found this book to be absolutely terrible. If I could have given it a zero rating I would have. I read Jemima J and enjoyed it even if the author Jane Green doesn't have a clue as to how real women lose weight in the real world, and even though I found parts of Jemima J that described overweight women stereotypical and rather mean, at least she kept the book moving and I kept in mind I was reading fiction therefore decided not to stay too angry with the author. Bookends does not entertain, simply put this book is BORING. I totally agree with the two reviewers here "Ratmammy" and "Marianne G." that this book goes nowhere and that Jane Green rambles on. I didn't feel connected to the character at all and does the reader really need to read 50 pages describing the main characters feeling of devastation over a friend's affair. I GET IT YOU'RE HURT AND BOTHERED NOW LET'S MOVE ON! Jane Green goes on and on about nothing many times throughout this book and it is really frustrating. I was so bored reading about every little thing that went into opening the store, Bookends, I was bored to death for chapters -- looking at the space for the store, cleaning it up, hiring contractors, painting it - the way she went on and one was equivalent to watching paint dry. Am I getting my point across that the author says a lot of nothing. I would not recommend this book. I cannot understand how some reviewers have given this 5 stars, I'm guessing they are friends of Jane -- this book stinks.
