Summary: Good technique, frustrating book
Comment: The reason why this book got two stars from me is the very useful "Wicca 101" techniques Ms. Curott imparts in her chapters. Her emotion as she writes makes them more than standard textbook, and that is a refreshing change.
However, as a memoir, this book is very cardboard. The "authors note" alone gave me pause, stating that though the book is true, names, personal details, and event details had been changed, and composite characters had been created. From the start, it made me wonder how much of Ms. Curott's story is reliable. The book is written from a very feminist perspective, and while you'll never hear me complain about women reclaiming their power in a male-dominated world, the book makes the male persona, embodied in her quick-to-anger boss, very much a villain. Men bad, the women in her circle good. It's very black and white in the book... but it isn't nearly so in everyday life. Jake, her love interest for a good part of the book, is mentioned three times, and we learn nothing more of him than where he's from. And, as another reader noted, while workings are very magical and quite an experience, her accounts seem very stretched at times, another thing that made me ponder the validity of her story.
So- read the book for fresh ideas on craft technique, but you'll find the rest of the book not so enchanting.

Summary: A beautiful alternative to "recipe" Craft books...
Comment: This is not an encyclopedia of spells, or essays of philosophy. This is a touching novel of a woman's personal journey into a misunderstood- and often poorly represented- religion. Moving, enlightening, and inspiring, it is a lovely introduction to witchcraft, and a great read on any level. The downsides: some events are a bit overdramatized to keep the novel 'exciting,' and it does occasionally border on new age fluff, and also touches on gynocentricity and male-bashing. But hey, you read a book written by a woman about a woman-centered religion, working in a male-dominated industry, and you're going to get an opinion or two coming through at some points. I applaud the way she bares her thoughts, her feelings, her experinces, her relationships, and her trials to the public. Ms. Curott is a courageous woman in so many ways, as is clearly shown in this modern-day initiation story. This takes you inside, to see 'what witches do' ...and what they don't. It is a journey of discovery and reclaiming the ancient symbols of women's mysteries. Heartily recommended for the curious, the beginner, the pro, or anyone looking for a touch of the mystical in the corporate world.

Summary: Reads like a medical journal
Comment: This book reads more like a detailed description of every movement this lady ever made. It is endlessly boring. Where is the power? Wicca is a beautiful topic to write about, but I see no revelation in her journey. Although, it is packed with information about Wicca.
