Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK! `E=O)--|---<
Comment: Words simply cannot express how much I enjoyed reading this novel. Sawyer is unbelievably talented and "Factoring Humanity" is only one of the many reasons why he is the ONLY author to have won all four of the worlds most prestigious SF awards. I can't believe some of the comments I have read about his characters being underdeveloped. Are we reviewing the same book here? Heather Davis and Kyle Graves (even Cheetah for crying out loud) could not have been more endearing and beloved. I extremely enjoyed his take on humanity and how our selfish nature is finally overturned. "Factoring Humanity" is worth 5 stars, it contains a thick, juicy plot with many themes that overlap, yet perfectly come together by the end of the story. As a result, my fingers kept turning the pages to satisfy the suspensefull nature of this sci-fi wonder.

Summary: Pure, complex, and absolutely facsinating SF!
Comment: This is the first Sawyer SF I've ever read and I know that I'll read many more of his work! I read the better part of the book in one night and the end the next morning! This is one of a few true page-turners that keeps you wondering what will be discovered next! The underlying structure of the character's outside lives is tied perfectly and flawlessly!
Much of this book is based on actual science and mathematical theories...but even if you aren't 'up with' quantum mechanics and computer science, you'll still fully understand and follow this story! The plot and plot mechanisms are absolutely brilliant, and this is one of the greatest SF books I have ever read! Very much recommended!
Robert J. Sawyer definetely deserves every single one of the many, many prestigious SF awards in the world! This book is well-written, well-structured, the characters have many dimensions, and the story is absolutely intruiging and fascinating! I know you'll love it!

Summary: L.A. Johnson for Midwest Book Review
Comment: Sci fi writer Robert J. Sawyer has won both the Nebula and Hugo Awards, and is nominated again this year. Factoring Humanity is the fourth book I've reviewed by this author, and each one is exceptional. Sawyer excels at putting a human face on technology and breathing soul into scientific data. This sci fi thriller is a prime example.
Heather Davis is a Psychology professor at the University of Toronto. Her husband, Kyle Graves, experiments with Artificial Intelligence and quantum mechanics at the same university. Their marriage has been strained by tragedy, and shattered with their youngest daughter's allegations of sexual abuse. Both are devastated by loss and throw themselves into their work. Heather's project is particularly intriguing.
Every 31 hours and 51 minutes like clockwork, a new data message is received from space. Its origin, a planet orbiting Alpha Centauri A. Heather and her colleagues around the world work at translating the messages without success, until one day she stumbles onto the key. Quantum physcs, mathematical equations, and parallel universes play a part in the mystery. First Heather and then Kyle is drawn into the conundrum with world changing results. Will the messages from space unlock the mysteries of the human mind? And will they be a path to healing or total annihilation of the human race?
As in every novel by this author, the underlying technology is first rate and the characters well defined. Long time fans of Sawyer will love Factoring Humanity, and new readers of his work will understand why he wins Hugo and Nebula Awards.
