Summary: A beautiful and enlightening work
Comment: This book is an absolute treasure. I only wish I could afford to buy one for every Muslim in America, as it is something our community desarately needs. The writing style itself is beautiful, the insights are beautiful, and God willing this work will help many Muslims and non Muslims alike to find the beauty inherent in Islam. Every essay I read touches my heart, and causes me to pause and feel a great happiness that we have this man in our midst, who may help us to bring about a great revival of Islam in America.
Rating: 5
Summary: A search for beauty
Comment: Dr Abou El Fadl captures the essence of an Islam that is rarely seen in the world today. The overly pious, the radical and the ignorant should read this book and challenge their infantile approach to this beautiful religion. Instead of blindly applying rigid interpretations of Islamic law to challenging problems, Dr. Abou EL Fadl seeks to best approximate what a compassionate, loving prophet would do. This is a must read for any muslim who seeks truth or any non-muslim who wants to see beauty in Islam.

Summary: A book that every Muslim should read in North America
Comment: Many Muslims will not read this book because they will feel that it is too honest. They will say, "Why show the negative about Islam and Muslims when non-Muslims do enough of that anyway?" some will say. Or others will say, "if you are Muslim, you should write about how wonderful it is to be Muslim, how we treat women wonderfully and why one should convert to Islam." Many will argue that this book does not do that. However, I will say that it does. In an honest and refreshing manner, this book captures the problems that face Muslims today. Many Muslims will admit that although they believe that Islam is the true religion and Allah is the true God, sometimes the practice of Islam by Muslims today is not as beautiful as Islam itself. Many times, Muslims practice Islam in a "cultural" way rather than an "Islamic" way. Things that are only talked about in inner circles in a hush-hush manner (and some things that are not talked about at all, such as sexual abuse) are addressed openly in this book for the first time in Muslim American history. How wonderful it is to read a book on Islam that states, "these things happen, but Islam is STILL beautiful." And when you read this book, you understand why that is true. I learned a lot from this book about Muslims, Islam and what beauty is in Islam. "The Sunnah of the Beloved" captures the Muslim's soul when thinking of the beloved Prophet Muhammad in such a way that every Muslim will be reduced to tears. If you want to change your life and the way you view the world, read this book. If you are afraid of changing your worldview and knowing what's going on in the world then at least have someone else read it for you and tell you which parts to read (such as Sunnah of the Beloved, that must be read by every Muslim.)
