Summary: No changing anyones mind
Comment: This is an excellent book and the author brings out some very good points. The opening is a riveting news item that of course did not make the papers because THE PRESS is neither objective or complete in covering BOTH view points.
I don't think it will change the average person's views on gun control. Until you are faced in a situation where you know a gun may have saved a loved ones life, you will never understand.

Summary: Excellent primer
Comment: This is an excellent primer for those who are new to the pro-gun owner movement, for fence riders, or for anti-gun owners who are wondering what all the fuss is about. Your unlikely to find anything new in the main body of this book if you're already familiar with the issue, though. The book seems geared toward the newcomer, and it is written with solid examples and easily followed ideas. Bbecause of that, it leaves out most of the technical arguements that help support some of its arguments. Reading this in addition to John Lott's "More Guns, Less Crime" will give you a good foundation in both the technical and the idealistic aspects.

That said, even if you've read every book that deals with the 2nd amendment to date, you should still read this book for the epilogue. Frankly, I think its one of the best written pieces on a subject not often discussed in today's American culture.

I thank the author for the book, but also for the suggested reading he mentions.

Summary: Well the neg reviewers are wrong
Comment: Fortunately for second amendmant supporters we finally got a republican in the whitehouse. The first thing the new A.G. John Ashcroft did, was have written into public record that the justice dept. official position is the 2nd amendmant protects an INDIVIDUAL's right to own gun's. You'll never change anyones mind about this issue, but buy this book if you want to make an intelligent argument with an anti-freedom(gun) advocate.
