Rating: 4
Summary: Lighthearted and witty
Comment: Roger Welsch looks at the both the trouble and the glory in tractor restoration. He does so with a keen sense of humour, and manages to keep the reader entertained, while educating him on the basics of tractor restoration.
I'm a Land Rover owner, and don't restore tractors as such, but I felt right at home with Welsch. Most of the agonies of tractor restoration have their counterpart in LR restoration.
This book can be very useful too: The list of things to do to get your wife to allow you to buy even more tractors is very useful, to say the least. I found other "gems" too.
Absolutely worth it's price.

Summary: Roger and Tractors - Old Iron meets it's match
Comment: Roger has a great story to tell about Men and Tractors. Using a homey kind of "front porch" story telling, Roger tells us about his steadfast affection (obsession) with old forgotten tractors. It read like I was right there in the shop with him looking over his shoulder. Given his keen wit, there is something to make you smile on each page.
The book is punctuated with articles he has written for various publications and of course advice. Lots of advice. For the novice restorer, there are plenty of tips and the appendix contains a good deal of information.
A tractor lover would appreciate this book the most, but any tinker who is even slightly mechanically inclined will appreciate it as well.
Thanks Roger!

Summary: Because Tractors are People Too
Comment: Well, not really. But this guy seems to think so. I wouldn't say he's a nut (because my father acts like him) but he's certainly got some quirks. This book is more about farm-related humor than it is about fixing old tractors. But it does offer advice for the novice old tractor enthusiast here and there in a very non-threatening kind of familiar fashion.
