Summary: Gloria Mallette is a true writer.
Comment: The Honey Well is another fine example of the talents of Gloria Mallette, a prolific writer who gives a solid performance through her engaging novel about a scandalous mother that pushes her young daughter into prostitution. Queen Esther is one of the most fascinating mothers in contemporary fiction. She is the ultimate Mommie Dearest type - ruthless, calculating, and thrives on power, not stopping until she gets her way.

In the prologue, Arnell, Esther's daughter, is a teen, but is an adult in the story. Arnell is now engaged and wants nothing more than to come from under her mother's rule. But Esther is a hard-head, she constantly makes up excuses for keeping her daughter a part of the brothel. Arnell is determined to fight Esther every step of the way and goes through much drama before the end.

With fast paced plotting full of twists and turns, The Honey Well is a page-turner that shows a fascinating side of the mother/daughter relationship.

All the characters are well-developed, and the writing voice of Mallette is top-notch. She takes the reader on a journey that is similar to riding a rollercoaster, dips, turns, shockers, and eye-openers, all of which makes for another great, and highly recommended read.

Summary: Outstanding Page Turner
Comment: The Honey Well by Gloria Mallette

How do you feel towards your mother who prostituted you at the sweet age of sixteen? How would you feel about yourself if seventeen years later you're still allowing the prostitution? Arnell Rayford's mother Esther; affectionately known at The Honey Well as "Queen Esther" manipulated her daughter Arnell into prostitution and kept her obedient by blackmailing her.

The book opens with a beautiful poem called Baby Girl, written by the author herself. The poem in its entirety was wonderful but for me this one sentence jumped right off the page and grabbed my heart. "For you, baby girl, are born with something more precious than the golden sweet honey made by the honey bees." That one piece was the basis of the book.

Gloria Mallette has done it again, another page turning success with a huge message. It wasn't until after reading the last 60 or so pages that I realized my body was tense. Ms. Mallette draws you so far into the story you will forget your surroundings and follow your emotions smack dead into the character lives. Kudos to you for such a strong and rich story.

Summary: This book is riveting!!!!!
Comment: What do you do when you are so devoted to your mother it means losing your own dignity and self respect? Those are the questions that Arnell has to answer when her own mother makes her prostitute for money. Despite the desire to get out, her mother keeps finding ways to blackmail her and make her feel guilty for wanting her own life instead of the life her mother carved for her. Her mother is the mother you love to hate. She is greedy, selfish and just a terrible person. You want to reach into the pages and tell Arnell "run, run, run and don't look back". This book shows you how low self esteem will have you believe anything, and makes you question where does devotion to your own loved ones end? This book is a page turner!!!!
