Summary: Not so bad
Comment: When I took this book at the library, I checked my amazon.com review. It was bad, so I decided to try the recipes. I tried sugar cookies (lights), chocolate chips muffins (my bests so far), cornmeal biscuits (tasty and lights), coconut oat cookies (now I understand what is chewy). All where great, so I think this cookbook is not as bad as some would like to say. I really appreciated the fact that the sugar rate is lower than in most of the american recipes I tried so far.

Summary: THE GREAT BIG COOKIE BOOK
Comment: I JUST LOVE THIS BOOK. THE ILLISTRANTIONS ARE GOOD FOR A BEGINNER AS I AM. I HAVE TRIED THE CHEESE CAKE AND IT TURNED OUT PERFECT. I AM HAVING A BABY SHOWER AND WANTED TO MAKE THE CHEDDER PENNIES SO I TRIED THE RECIPE AND IT WAS HORRIBLE. THE CHEESE AND BUTTER MELTED AND THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT AFTER 8 MINUTES IN THE OVEN. I AM GLAD I TRIED THE RECIPE PRIOR TO THE SHOWER.

Summary: Five Stars Just on Diversity and Variety of Recipes!
Comment: Colorful and diverse. This book was published in New York, but feels British to me. There are really great explanatory steps and photographs showing techniques along with a finished photo of how every cookie, scone and brownie appears when done. It's a big book as well, I mean tall. There are also muffin recipes, and savory baked goods recipes. Let me give you a brief sampling of some of the diverse recipes: Coconut Oatmeal Cookies, Buttermilk Cookies, Snickerdoodles, Churros, Chocolate Marzipan Cookies,Morvarian Tarts, Lace Cookies, Amaretti,Bacon Twists,Cheddar and Chive Biscuits, Popovers,Sticky Date and Apple Squares, and on and on. There are over 200 illustrated recipes.
This would be a great gift for someone who is starting to bake or for anyone who likes baking cookies and enjoys the unusual recipe.
