Comment: I can honestly say that this book goes down as one of my favourites; I couldn't put the book down and it's the only book to have made me cry. Brilliant descriptions, gripping to the very end

Summary: Beautifully written........
Comment: This is one of the best books i have ever read. Colleen McCollough is truly an amazing writer. The way she weaves together the story is just fascinating, as are the characters.
The story is based on Homer's The Illiad- the legendary story of the Trojan War. It is told from the different perspectives of various major and semi-major characters, over three generations, starting with the Trojan King Priam as a young man before he becomes king (and the events leading up to it), and ending with Neoptolemous, Achilles' son. Other characters who narrate are Agamemnon, the high and mighty king of kings; Achilles, the golden lipless warrior; Odysseus, the blazing intellect; Paris, the dangerously charming pretty boy; Helen, the magnificent, uncomparable beauty; and Hector, the noble Trojan Prince.
I would reccomend this book to people who have some prior knowledge to the story it may help them understand some of the events better. But, overall, this is a great book. It looks at the Trojan War and all the events leading up to it in a more realistic sense, which is why it so believable, because this could be the real story of the Trojan War. The characters are fascinating- I especially found Helen, Odysseus, Achilles and Neoptolemous very interesting. The strength of Colleen McCullough's writing is a bonus, as I dont think anyone else could interpret this story in such an interesting way. Highly recomended.

Comment: The Song of Troy is a fabulous look at the ancient tale of the Trojan War. Ms. McCullough spins a marvelous yarn about a fascinating period. I read this after reading her Masters of Rome series and I was not disappointed!!!!
