Summary: Terrific book! But alittle too explicit for 4-8 year olds.
Comment: Wow! I can't believe I'm the first person to review this excelent book. The contents of the book are: What's inside you, Why do people eat, What makes you ill, Where do babies come from, and Why are people different. Each of these chapters is further divided into sections. For example, the chapter titled What's Inside You? is subdivided into the following sections: What does your body do, Eating, Where your food goes, etc. I used this as a 1st grade health book for my homeschooled daughter. She loved it and looked through it independently. The info is on target for grades K-4. The illustrations are great - informative and visually apealing. We are finished with the book now, but I intend to keep it for future use. TWO PROBLEMS: 1) The chapter "Where do babies come from?" has got several sections which my wife and I agreed were too explicit for our 7 yr old. Use your own best judgement baised on your child's maturity level and tape together any problem pages until your child is ready for them. 2) Predictably, evolution is presented as a fact not as an incomplete, gap ridden theory that it is. Having a degree in science myself, I must confess that science can not provide a definite answer to every question - such as when and how humans came about. Evolution is just a guess that has "evolved" into a religious like movement that is very eager to be believed as "the truth". The cult of evolution is as deeply dependent on "belief" as are all other religions, the evolutionist are just too embarassed to admit it. But what ever your beliefs are just make sure to discuss them with your kid - because someone is going to. Don't let these small flaws prevent you from getting an otherwise wonderful book.
