Summary: Somewhat dissapointing, but at times helpful
Comment: Okay, lets compare this to the other BradyGAMES guides shall we? As with most RPG guides that Bradygames makes now, they have that step by step thing first, and then what to do in the actual areas. At first this was pretty clever. Now it seems like a brilliant Idea now.
What are the positive qualities? Let me start off by saying, there is a full walkthrough for both FFIV and CT, and the boss strategies help a little bit better than in most of there other guides. The walkthrough is very informative and will help you get through the games at least. The world maps are very detailed and pin-point out locations. There is a shops list before the actual walkthrough this time, but that can be annoying flipping back through the pages, but not too annoying. The walkthroughs are very organized, and they tell you stats for bosses in both sections. The Chrono Trigger section tells you how to get all the endings in Chrono Trigger, and all the sidequests. The cover is also a flip cover, unlike the Final Fantasy Anthology guide. So now you don't have to turn all the way to Chrono Trigger section, you can just flip the guide over and there it is. They also tell you about all the extras modes in Chrono Trigger
With all these positives, what are the negatives? Well, they say they have maps, but thats hardly true! They have a map here and there, but not many. Especially in the Chrono Trigger section. They have some, but they don't help you much at all. They won't help you find items so don't bother. They will however, tell you the items in the area. In the FFIV section, they tell you who can learn the magic spell, but they don't tell you what level they can be obtained. They just list the MP usage and what it does. Something that we already know. Also, throughout the Chrono Trigger section, there are tons of spoilers, and they even spoil some of the endings for you. In the FFIV section they don't cover many secrets at all, and they cover almost no secrets for Chrono Trigger (unless you count the endings as secrets). But they do explain about new game+ in Chrono Trigger.
In other words, this guide isn't that useful for some areas, but for the side quest in Chrono Trigger, I found it to be really useful. Other than that, I could get through both games without this guide pretty easily.
I do however, like the training that they tell you at first hand before going thorugh your journeys, and in Chrono Trigger they give you a list of tech skills for you.
Overall this guide was a good buy, but I found myself able to get along without it. But for the side quest of CT I'd get it for some of them.

Summary: Great guide
Comment: Dan Birlew should continue to write strategy guides for Bradygames. He did a phenomenal job of writing a guide for these two games. There are explanations for each character, all the items, spells, and techs for each game. The walkthroughs are very detailed, but some of the maps are not there. I can understand because some areas are straightforward, but for a first timer I can see them getting lost in some of the castles. There are tons of data on all the items and aspects of the games, and this guide will be informative even to veterans who have played these games multiple times. This guide is the best compliment to the game that you can find.

Summary: A nice buy but not always...
Comment: There are times when you're glad you have this guide and other times when you wish you didn't. The guide's overall presentation isn't bad but there are a few things that make this short a star (sometimes maybe two). First off, I like that the guide is a flip cover and not like their Final Fantasy Anthology guide.
First, the FFIV section. A complete walkthrough is there for FFIV as well as a complete items list and spells list. The walkthrough has suggested levels for dungeons (and trust me on this versio of FFIV you'll want to be at those levels!). Some nice clear screens along the way and some pretty cool secrets that were a nice addy. Character Bios that give me info on each character and hardly a major spoiler in sight. Complete items lists and nice boss strategies as well.
Chrono Trigger section is also nicely done with detailed items lists and tech skills list. Each sidequest is covered in-depthly with some nice boss strategies too. No suggested levels but the game is pretty easy.
Both sections include a bestiary as well but it's only text. This doesn't annoy me but it does others.
So what's the problem with the guide? It has world maps for both sections and seems to include everything...
Well first off, the maps (when they actually have some) are downright TERRIBLE! Most of them are a simple screenshot while tons of maps simpley aren't there. The FFIV section details everything about spells except when you actually learn them. So the level you learn them isn't clear. Both sections have a disorganized walkthrough that cleary make this guide seem like a rushed job. Chrono Trigger section also contains a few spoilers and FFIV section has bad directions to another town (thank god they put world maps in this one!).
Overall, the guide is nice for when you're stuck but don't expect that much in-depth info.
