Summary: A Book Worth Losing Sleep Over
Comment: The story begins pretty much like you would expect a retelling of Sleeping Beauty to. The whole once upon a time, the king and queen longing to have a child, finally have a beautiful baby girl, forget to invite someone to christening, forgotten someone curses child, and so on and so forth. But this only takes up the first couple of pages. Everything that follows turns the beloved fairytale upside down and inside out...

Aurore is the spunky and very much awake "sleeping beauty" and the narrator of the tale. The main focus of the book is not about the long sleep or the kiss or anything you might at first suspect. Instead it focuses on what is was like growing up with such a threat looming in the not so distant future.

Aurore has always known what the future held in store for her, but it has not kept her from living her life to the fullest. She works beside the common people, helping them, and loves to explore the outside world that was forbidden to her for a long time by an overprotective mother. But when she turns 16, the year she is destined to prick her finger, the curse begins to show itself in the weather and in the animals with opposites seeming to war with each other, even as the curse and the anti-spell of sleep instead of death war within Aurore. When Aurore decides to run away to the enchanted forest to protect her people from the curse she carries within herself, Aurore finds her destiny ...and her true love, in something entirely unexpected...

I always say that any story can be turned topsy-turvy with a couple of what ifs...and this book has convinced me that Cameron Dokey believes that too. What if the person who cursed sleeping beauty was not essentially evil? Could living with the the fear of the curse be the real curse? What if sleeping beauty met the man of her dreams before she pricked her finger? What if sleeping beauty took her destiny in her own hands? Can you changer your destiny...do you really want to? Can love stand the test of time? But enough of that...you get the picture. Just so you know...it does end happily...

Summary: Beauty Sleep keeps you WIDE awake
Comment: ...: I think all of you out there should read this book. It has a meaning within the book. In fact, it has several meanings. Of course, all books have meanings in them. But this is a book with a true meaning...one that is important. This meaning is related to life and love, etc. It has quite a bit of vocabulary and concepts and phrases may be difficult to understand. Still, it is good. It is a twisted version of Sleeping Beauty. I believe that it is extremely well written. It has unexpected events and suspense as well. A good combination indeed. I finished this book in one day. That has got to stand for something since I pretty much hate reading for the most part. But back to the point, I think this is a really good book, one that teaches you an important aspect in life and so on. It's extremely rare that I give something, especially a book, 5 stars!

Story: Aurore is a princess who has been cursed since the day of her christening. Cousin Jane puts a spell on her, the ever famous spell, and Chantel tries to make the spell better so that Aurore will not die. As she grows up, she bonds with her cousin Oswald. When she turns 16, chaos reins for many days in her kingdom and strange things happen...raining blood...cats giving birth to ravens...Aurore decides it is time to flee. She runs into the forbidden forest that is said to be enchanted. There, she meets a man named Ironheart. She joins him on a quest that brings her places she never knew...within the forest..and within her heart. Despite the spells and curses cast upon her creating her destiny, Aurore discovers that love is the most powerful magic of all...

Summary: Is 10 stars an option?
Comment: Wow. Yes, that's the only word out of millions that I can draw from my head to describe this short novel. It was so much more than I had expected, so absolutely wonderful that I think this book ranks #1 on my "Greatest novels of all time" list, well, if I had one that is. 0_o

First, I think Aurore is the greatest storyteller of all time, in a --book-- that is. She was witty and smart and I never once thought to dislike her. Even Oswald and Ironheart, had the kind of sense of humour I favour the most, my own of course: witty and sarcastic. Every single character had a mind, a personality, and were not flat at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure that next time I'm out, I'll bump into one of them and strike up a conversation!

The ending, oh, the ending! It ended exactly as I had hoped it would, even though I was sure it couldn't possibly end that way...but it did! This novel was perfect, I don't think I would change a thing if I could! It was funny, romantic, smart, and even a bit mysterious, if you will. If you're having doubts as to whether you want to buy this novel, let me tell you, I am here right now screaming at you to buy it right away, because I know I am not the only person in this world who will fall absolutely in love with it! However, if you --really-- need your beauty sleep (which you look like you do if you don't mind me saying) then I don't bother reading this, because I promise you'll spend the whole night with your nose glued to the pages!
