Summary: Satin Doll
Comment: I just finished reading the Satin Doll. I thought it was a good book it took me a couple of tries to actully start the book, but once I was in it..I was in it. I was a little surprised by the end.
Rating: 5
Summary: Loved the twist and turns of the character
Comment: I really loved this book. I liked the way Ms. Miller was able to show how Regina was able to grow and learn from life's lessons. I also like the way she illustrated the many dimensions of friendship. I am a true die hard fan of E. Jerome Dickey and she rates right up there with him in my book. I look forward to reading "I'm Telling".

Summary: Not Too Enthralled With Satin Doll...
Comment: Once upon a time, Karen E. Quinones-Miller had a gem of novel in Satin Doll. It had all the right stuff -- a promising plot, compelling characters and delectable dialogue. I was immediately drawn to Satin Doll's main character, Regina Harris, who despite her tragic background, became a succesful career woman. Her story was totally believable and gripping. Regina's painful backstory was expertly woven throughout the novel, and Ms. Quinones-Miller did an excellent job of showing why Regina said and acted the way she did.
I enjoyed about 75% of Satin Doll. Ms. Quinones-Miller had a winner almost to the end, and then her plot and her characters totally unraveled. I have reason to believe that the book logically ended a chapter or two before it actually did, but for whatever reason the author tacked on the "additional ending" perhaps to appease an editor, publisher or financial backer.(Wasn't the original version self-published?) However, the ending frustrated me terribly. In the end, Regina's actions made no sense at all, and the decision she made in the end made even less sense. Had it not been for the wack ending, I would have given this book five stars, no doubt.
If they ever decide to make this book into a movie, those last three chapters will need a major rewrite.
