Summary: Raises doubts about the value of Pieper's prudence teachings
Comment: In GOD AND THE CONSTITUTION, Paul Marshall sets out to apply Christian principles to American political issues, allegedly in accordance with the teachings of Josef Pieper.

For perhaps related reasons, Marshall conveys only a superficial understanding of the implications of Christian belief.

Would Josef Pieper have approved of this superficial approach? Maybe. Nevertheless, I think it expresses too little spirituality for the subject at hand. Marshall's book is not sufficiently profound; not sufficiently challenging (regardless of his readers' religious attitudes).

But even though the author may not be soulful enough to deserve to market himself as a "CHRISTIAN", he is definitely a "CONCERNED CITIZEN". For what it's worth, this alone should make Christians and others proud of him...and equally proud of his small, non-spiritual book of preliminary ideas.

Summary: Christianity Can Work in Politics
Comment: This book explains why religious thought should be more present in politics based on the nature of creation. It focuses on the governmental goal of justice from the Christian perspective and provides a sound basis for the Just War theory. This book proves what the founders intended all along that the First Amendment prohibition on the establishment of a national religion should be limited to that clear mandate, nothing more. In other words, contrary to the intolerant views of many of his critics, G.W. Bush is allowed to and should mention Jesus Christ. I commend the author of this insightful text.
