Summary: Don't Waste Your Time
Comment: This book is a dismal waste of time. There are no fresh ideas or anything that one can call helpful in this work. It is very limited in scope and does not explore many approaches. The author appears to cling to the tried, tired and trite. The thing this reviewer was perterbed by was the constant introduction of and reading sexual themes into just about everything the clients did or drew. In many instances, non-sexually abused children do not really know about intercourse. Childrens' interpretation of the adult act is certainly not on an adult par. It does seem prudent to establish behavioral boundaries, set reasonable expectations (this, as with anything varies on an individual basis) and to keep in mind that permissiveness does not help anybody in the long run. The antonym of permissiveness, or overly punitive approach is equally detrimental, but for an entirely different set of reasons. One gets the feeling that she is determined to make the clients fit into the scenarios and outcomes she describes. This book is really not helpful or informative on a serious level. It really is a big waste of time and not for anyone who is serious about the subject.
