Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Comment: Tears of a Tiger is about a boy named Andy and some of his highschool friends,Gerald, Tyrone, and B.J. The story focuses on the way in which the boys attempt to deal with a fatal car accident in which they lost their best friend Robbie. Andy and Robbie played on the basketball team together. One night after they had successfully beaten their opponents, they decided to get drunk and go drive around to celebrate their victory. Everyone, except for Gerald, who did not go with them, and B.J., had been drinking. Andy was driving the car when, suddenly, they crashed into a wall. Andy, Tyrone, and B.J. got out of the car just in ti,e before the car burst into flames. Unfortunately Robbie was trapped inside. Andy blamed himself entirely for Robbie's death, and so did his friends. However, they were having to face at this point in time was nothing compared to what was soon to come. I think Tears of a Tiger is a great book. It deals with so many issues that young people have to deal with. Sharon Draper is a great author. The unique style in which she writes makes this story easy for young people to understand. Irecommend Tears of a Tiger to people of all ages.

Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Comment: This book review is about the book Tears of a Tiger, written by Sharon M. Draper. Sharon Draper was the 1997 teacher of the year. In addition to Tears of a Tiger she has written several other books. She is an African American teacher in Ohio. Her book, Tears of a Tiger, has received many different awards. It was named one of the top one hundred books for young adults in addition with being named one of the best of the year by Children's Book Council. So read on to find out what this book is really about.
Andy Jackson's life gets turned upside down when his car crashed into a wall killing his best friend, Robbie Washington. Andy starts going through depression. Feeling guilty about what happened and struggling around the house with his parents, his grades, and most of all keeping his life together. Andy struggles with his relationships with Kiesha and with his friends. At one point in time he describes his life through the life of a tiger, "...they are put in concrete cages with bars of steel." He goes further saying, " ...he soon learns he will never get out of there."
Andy's friends also struggle. B.J, Gerald, Kiesha, and even Tyrone. In one of Gerald's English homework assignments he says tells how he would change the world, " If I could change the world I would get rid of peanut butter, Band-Aids, and five dollar bills." For Kiesha it is a little different. She struggles more with Andy than anyone else. As her diary reads, " I get tired of all this depressing stuff." But it still varies more for Tyrone who looks to Rhonda for help, where as B.J looks to the sky.
I think the main theme of this book is how kids need to express their feelings and how most don't. As Andy being the Tiger who is trapped and caged it is like his feeling are trapped and caged inside of him and he can't take it anymore. I think once everything caught up with Andy he realizes what he should have done in the first place but feels as if it is too late now. Find out how Andy deals with this and how his friends react.
Sharon Draper handles her characters greatly. She develops them in many different ways through newspaper articles and homework assignments; all things we have read or completed before makes this book come to life. Although her overall setting takes place in an everyday high school, a place you and I have been to many a times. All this and more helps you relate to the book as a person and also teaches you a lesson.
Her use of dialogue also helps her make her characters who they are. Since all of the people in her book are African American their dialogue is important and unique. They all speak in slang and she develops that in her book. This dialogue helps make the characters who they are and helps you to recognize how special they are to the book and how special the book is.
I think a person who enjoys books with a very powerful meaning would enjoy this book. It all depends on what type of reader you are... I think that if in some way you can relate to the book you will enjoy it immensely. I actually think teens would benefit the most from this book by learning a lesson and looking at life from a different perspective on how certain things affect certain people. It sends you a message of life and I think a lot of people would like that.
The only people I can think of that wouldn't like this book are people who don't like stories of pain and coping... people who are looking for a book with a happy ending should not read this book. People who like fantasies and books about things that don't really happen in life would not like this book. So read the book and find out for yourself if this book will forever change your life or always make you stop and think, I guarantee one of the two if not both!

Summary: Great
Comment: I am 16 years old. Therefore,I know how teenagers act.Sharon does a very good job of portraying us.We are deeply emotional, sometimes immature, and mostly good at heart-all of which Sharon captures. The ending of this book is dramatic and emotional.I got very choked up and almost to the point of tears.I really liked it and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good true-lifeish story.
