Comment: The Buddy Trap

The Buddy Trap was written by Sheri Sinkin and it is about a Korean named Cam Whitney. In this book, Cam is forced to go to Camp Rainbow Lake. The camp focuses mainly on shooting, archery, and "war games." So Cam is dropped off at the camp and meets up with the camp's counselor named Pee-Wee. Pee-Wee tells Cam about the war game called "Spoils of War." The rules of the game is simple, you go around picking up spoils of war, or trash. The game is played in rounds; the one with the most spoils when the game is over will be giving orders to the camp for two days. So Cam is caught playing his noisy flute by his tent mate and his opponent named Buddy.
I liked the book because it told how a Korean flute player that stunk at playing the flute becomes a better flute player. Also I liked the book called The Buddy Trap because it tells how a kid secretly plays the noisy instrument in a tent with a sleeping tent mate named Buddy. He was Korean and didn't experience any discrimination over race, color or religion. It also shows how he spends time in a war camp that he doesn't like and never got bored or complained about how bad the camp was. Lastly, the best part I liked about it is when a fire started and he was framed about but got a light consequence, and had to clean up the mess and got kicked out. It could've been a worse consequence, suing his family.

Summary: A Flute at Rainbow Lake
Comment: This book is about Cameron Whitney, an 11-year-old boy who plays flute. His parents force him to go to an outdoor summer program at Camp Rainbow Lake instead of a music camp he wanted to go to. When getting there he finds out they are going to play a war game where you try to find trash out in the woods and keep it without another team finding you and taking your "spoils". Cam teams up with Jason, a smart guy who likes sports, and "Whaler", whose real name is Jonah and people call him whaler because of his size. One night Cam decides to sneak out and practice his flute in secret, but Buddy, a mean boy who always is really mean, swipes his flute while he isn't looking. Buddy makes Cam a deal: If Cam spies on his own team for Buddy, Buddy will keep his flute safe. Cam takes the deal. Shortly after this Jason decides to make Cam pretend to be on Buddy's side and spy for his team. With Cam being a double agent and Jason taking the game to a new level, the stakes get even higher in The Buddy Trap.

I would give The Buddy Trap five stars. Each chapter adds more danger, complication, and dishonesty to the game of stealing and betrayal.
