Summary: Why review anything if you don't love it?
Comment: I read this all those years ago, and I have since referred it to a number of people in search of a good story and a great laugh. My brother (a non-reader) has always said that he finds it hard to believe that a bunch of words written on a page can make you emote to exaggerated degrees be they horror, sadness or laughter. No, he is by no means stupid, and yes his imagination is not what one would call extremely active...he's a stock broker. What I told him is...it's all about manipulation. Can an author manipulate your emotions effectively? Well, McCammon proved he could very effectively manipulate emtions in this book...all the way around. There were times in this book, where I was tearing up with fits of laughter, and there were a great many times I was intrigued with his manipulation of the age-old craft of physical description...Has Grisham ever described a swamp better than McCammon did in this book...I can hear the bubbling sounds of water ever now.

Summary: GONE SOUTH IS A GREAT BAYOU TALE!
Comment: Why oh why have I waited so long to read this author's works? I always ask myself this question when I finish another one of this man's brilliant story-telling books. This very versatile writer writes totally different tales in each and every book, and that is a pure breath of fresh air for this reader. In GONE SOUTH, a tortured man's past and his present predictament clash, and Dan Lambert is caught in a web of murder and running from the law, bounty hunters, and from himself deep into the louisiana bayous. The two bounty hunters are very different and interesting to read about. The very strangeness and bizarre are very apparent in this sojourn into the heart and soul of finding redemption. There is lots of thrills and spills as well as some action and adventure that was very well put together and enjoyable to read. This is a must read.

Summary: Good Enough
Comment: I read McCammon's "Swan Song" years ago and I loved it. This book is not anywhere near as good, but a decent read nonetheless. I rarely read fiction nowadays. Only Michael Crichton, Mario Puzo, and occasionally John Grisham can interest me in fiction anymore. I bought "Gone South" years ago and it's just been sitting around waiting to be read.

So, even though I don't read much fiction, I did enjoy this book. It kept me interested. And that, after all, is one of the reasons to read.
