Summary: Delightful indeed!
Comment: I took this book on vacation with me and got some very strange looks from the other passengers on the cruise ship when I kept bursting into hysterical laughter. It truly was delightful! The very concept of turning a group of cutthroat pirates bent on reforming themselves loose in a Scottish castle was priceless. For those who didn't find the book historical enough, I say "Lighten up!" The beauty of the romance genre is that there is room for a vast variety of stories and styles. I'll take the spark of magic I find in Jillian Hunter's writing over dry, emotionless research any day. And just because an author doesn't choose to indunate the reader with historical facts, it doesn't mean the facts she does include are in error. I only wish Errol Flynn and Olivia deHaviland were still around to star in the movie version of this one! The banter very much reminded me of something you'd find in one of their swashbuckling films and the scene in the church near the end brought a definite lump to my throat. Be true to your muse, Ms. Hunter, and continue to charm and delight us with your unique talent and voice!

Summary: Delightful seventeenth century romance
Comment:
In 1662 Scottish Highlands, the Dragon of Darien and his loyal crew of pirates decide it is time to retire since the Stuarts are back on the throne. Adding to the captain's incentive is that he has inherited a run down Castle, Dunmoral. No longer the Dragon, Douglas Moncrief seeks respectability as expected of a Laird.
Princess Rowena of Hartzburg, a small principality that is in trouble from rebels, needs a warrior scoundrel. She comes to obtain the services of the notorious Dragon. Instead she gets the aristocratic Douglas. As he acts more like a gentleman, she becomes more shrewish over his behavior. However, neither one can stop the love that grows between them. The only thing holding them back is how Rowena reacts to Douglas' true colors.
DELIGHT is a humorously warm historical romance that shows the daring talent of an adept writer to breathe a fresh perspective into an era that has been done to the bone. The story line is fast-paced, filled with action, and loaded with jocular ripostes. The warmth of the characters is a Jillian Hunter trademark which turns her novels into fairy tales that arouse the interest of the sub-genre audience.

Summary: The Title Tells You All
Comment: Douglas Moncrieff, aka the Dragon of Darien, by a stroke of the 'merry' king's pen is given a Scottish earldom...and a royal order to behave. He could never have been called an angel, always taking what he wanted but now he would have to lay the pirate to rest and prove himself to be civilized when the mere sight of the Princess Rowena leaves his body feeling anything but civilized. Here she was the beautiful and wealthy Princess Rowena of Hartzburg, an innocent heiress in danger, fleeing to the Highlands to seek the protection of and aid from Douglas' saintly half brother Matthew, whom he'd always despised. Having heard that Matthew had broken his leg in an act of heroism and would be delayed, Douglas and his colorful pirate crew were concocting plans in order to impress the 'princess'.
In a word, the title describes the rest of this book. I'm glad that I was alone when I read it, because I would have embarrassed myself when scenes from this book had me laughing hysterically. The scene with the demonstration of the flight of the falcon, engineered by Douglas' sister Gemma and crewmembers is priceless! But not for laughs alone ' you will be also be delighted with the swashbuckling fight scenes, the very sensual love scenes and the touchingly sweet bonding of these men and women who had lived and loved together as pirates on the high seas and now attempted to live respectable lives on land.
The characters are all finely drawn and hewn to a vivid image by the deft and brilliant pen of this wonderful author and you will take them all and embrace them in your heart as you read this magical tale. I found it to be an exceptionally fast read and very difficult to put down. It doesn't have a terrific amount of historical data to consume as much as page turning excitement, sexual tension and loads of laughs. This is definitely a very enjoyable and fun read that I highly recommend ' a super book to take on vacation!
