Summary: Past The TI-90
Comment: The highly-acclaimed author Stephen King comes back with another amazing novel! "Bag of Bones", at 529 pages long, is the story of an author, Michael Noonan, whose wife dies suddnely in the heat of a summer day. In the four years following, our protagonist tries to emotionally recover from her death, but cannot and almost puts his entire life on hold, until he meets a yound, single mother named Mattie and her 3-year-old daughter Kyra, or Ki.
As he continues to live in his summer house in Derry, Maine, his memories of his wife and recent dreams all connect into what his future will be, each signaled by a ringing bell in his living room. "To some extent," says Kind,"this novel deals with the legal aspects of child custody in the State of Maine". Ghosts and spirits walk in and out of his mere existence to help im continue his life and help the only people that he believes he cares about, which is completely aloof from normal.
What do these ghosts have to say to Michael Noonan? Why do they keep weaving into his life? What does the incidental meeting of him and Mattie mean? Why does Michael feel such an obligation to this young girl, Kyra, and her mother? You must read past the boundaries of the state of Maine to find out!

Summary: Absorbing, Complex, and Creeped Me Out
Comment: I am new to Stephen King, only having read Dreamcatcher and The Gunslinger before Bag of Bones.
One thing for sure about Mr. King: He always makes me want to turn that page. And more so than the other two books, Bag of Bones sent chills up my spine.
B.O.B. is considerably richer in detail, language, storyline (rather complex), and character development. Except for a place or two, the story is devoid of gore, which is fine with me, as the most satisfying aspects of his writing is his sensitivity towards life and his characters. Even in Dreamcatcher, where the gross and gruesome stuff is in your face, I found his characters and sense of humor to be the elements of the story that I remember the most.
The book is partly a ghost story, which caused me to have real doubts about wanting to read it, as ghost stores generally leave me bored. I was wrong. It's ghostly elements were creepy enough but never hackneyed nor predictable.
Bag of Bones has a timeless quality about it, like Carrie.
Finally, if permitted by Amazon, I would have given 4.5 stars for Bag of Bones instead of 4. I respectfully hold back 1/2 star because on occasion King's writing lapses a bit, not up to par with the rest of the novel.
But I'm only nitpicking here, plus I want to give my true opinions of the book.
Read Bag of Bones. You'll enjoy more than one sleepness night from being unable to put the down, and being creeped out--as it should be.

Summary: best book to read
Comment: The story opens to a 40-year-old man by the name of Mike Noonan. He is talking about how his wife, Jo, died and how that she never told him that she was pregnant with their daughter. He can't shake the feeling of shock off, and he seems to have writer's block. This becomes apparent when he can't stand to look at his computer and all he does is drink and do crossword puzzles at the kitchen table. Throughout the first couple of chapters, Mike starts to have dreams about Manderley, their cabin in Maine, but all he can do in his dream is stand at the beginning of the driveway and not move, just staring down the driveway towards Sara Laughs (the name of the cabin).
As time goes on, Mike is expected to give a new manuscript of his latest book to his publishers. Since he has had writer's block since about the time Jo died, he kept a large folder of manuscripts in a safe deposit box in the local bank in Derry, where he lives. He had one manuscript left in the box. He sends that one to the publishers. Not long after, Mike decides to go to Sara Laughs. The dreams (or nightmares) that he has been having have just about driven him over the edge. He discovers that Jo had been going to Sara Laughs many times without him knowing. He meets a two young ladies, who he becomes enamored with, and an old man, who has never talked to him before, is now making threats towards him to leave Manderley or mind his own business. He soon uncovers a mystery that pulls everyone in that he knows and holds dear.
Mike is the main character in the novel. Everything comes from his point of view. The reader is put into his place and can kind of see everything from Mike's own eyes. The detail in this book is really extraordinary. The description paints a picture in the reader's mind about where everything is and how it appears. The development of the novel is very interesting. It starts out like it is just telling you about a dead woman and how her husband is trying to cope with that fact. As the novel progresses, the idea of just Mike trying to cope with something is turned into something more.
I highly recommend reading this book. I loved it. The imagery and how the characters were placed in this novel are on the overwhelming side. When you think that one thing is going to happen or someone is going to hook up with another, the story takes a twist and something happens to make that thing that you expected to happen, not happen. The book will definitely keep you sitting on the edge of your seat and never wanting to put the book down. When the end comes, you want to scream in frustration because it seems that there should be something more in the end of the book. Like I said before, I highly recommend reading this book.
