Summary: Kirk and Crew + TNG and Voyager crews good ST Scifi.
Comment: Kirk and Crew + TNG and Voyager, and Capt Kirk goes up against his greatest rival.... Capt. Kirk! This is the first book of the mirror mirror trilogy, and continues events from Kirks first ST trilogy. Shatner and friends prove they are the best writers of Star Trek books period! I hope they keep them coming.
You Shatner haters should just relax and enjoy. I like Picard to, but Kirk has been to the mirror universe, plus he is what, a 100 years old and still physically and mentally vital. Experience is a good thing.
Gosh for trekkies and Sci-Fi nuts this is great stuff. Now can we get Shatner and friends to write a book called ANAKIN SOLO, THE RETURN. He could come back in Tahiri's body. Ever more relavent, what about DATA, THE RETURN. If the ST Guru's haven't assigned that one yet, grab it Bill.
Sorry. I drifted. This is an interesting trilogy. I defineately liked the first 2 books. But the 3rd book PRESERVER I have only heard on Audio CD, and it was a little confusing and seemed to be a let down.

Summary: Star Trek Spectre
Comment: This story takes place in the 24th century in outer space between the Terran System, the Cardassian border, and an alternate universe....
Captain James T. Kirk: the first Captain of the Enterprise, a legend in Starfleet records, and the hero of many planets and civilizations has retired from his Starfleet career. Kirk thinks his old adventuring days of meeting new alien species, saving planets, and solving mysteries aboard his starship are over. At least, he thinks they are. But when he returns to Earth for the first time since his last three apparent deaths on the
Enterprise-B, Viriidian III, and the Borg home world, he will find out about a mystery that could be his biggest challenge yet!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard is used to '...seeking out new life and new civilizations...' but he and his ship, the U.S.S. Enterprise-E are sent to the Badlands, an unstable sector of space to secure it from any Cardassian military activity. The Cardassians are ruthless, militant, reptilian humanoids and an arch nemesis of the Federation. But seeking out new life and new civilizations is nothing compared to what Picard is about to discover.... The U.S.S. Voyager, after being stranded at the other side of the galaxy for five years, has finally returned home! The Voyager was rumored to have disappeared in the badlands half a decade ago. Lt. Tom Paris, the last surviving senior Starfleet officer, reports that Kathryn Janeway, the Captain of the Voyager, was killed in their journey back. But if that is true, who is that mysterious woman that has kidnapped Kirk after her ship returned back on Kirk's retirement home on the planet Chal?
I liked the way the characters changed. Like how Picard learned not to always take the risky, dangerous adventures, and how Kirk learned to respect all of his enemies. To find out how they changed, you have to read the book. I would rate this book five stars for the action, mystery, weapon fights, the end of the book and the beginning of the saga. I like the way William Shatner put his character in the not always winning zone. This book taught me that every thing you say, every thing you do, might change the future significantly, for it might even change a universe, and to respect your enemies as well as your friends. I really liked this book and would recommend it to any Star Trek fan aged 8 and up and would also recommend it to any of the The Next Generation cast of the TV series, and to any body who likes sci-fi, fiction, and/or scary movies.
If you liked this book, read the next two books in the series:
Dark Victory
Preserver
If you want to read about Kirk's, third apparent death, read:
The Ashes of Eden (about Klingon Federation conspiracy)
The Return (about Attacking the Borg Home world)
Avenger (about The Virogin crisis)
Watch: Star Trek Generations for Kirk's first and second apparent deaths.

Summary: Shatner did it again!!
Comment: After reading book one in Shatner's Mirror universe trilogy, I can honestly say that this book is not bad at all. The books strongest point is the story. I feel that Shatner has fleshed out the mirror universe in some key areas, like its history, its divergence from the normal universe, and the circumstances that led to the downfall of the Terran empire. I felt myself being drawn deeper and deeper into the story as each chapter passed by wondering what I would learn next. The story is the reason I gave this book 4 stars because this book suffers in the same area as does his others books; characters. It still amazes me how William Shatner expects us to believe that his old crew is so much more superior to the TNG crew, and that Kirk is superior to everyone combined. Kirks Tactics are flwless, his logic better than Spocks, his timing so precise, and so much more. Things seem to go on schedule for Kirk while Picard loses his ship in very simple fashion. Shatners constant reminders of Kirks love for Teilani became a nuisance and after a short while I just didn't buy into the new kirk and his new frame of mind. And no, Kirk is not irresistable to women and a perenial babe magnet, let is go Shatner. In any case the story was very good and, this time, it carries the day for Shatner. Read this book if you are a die hard Kirk fan or if you want a good Trek story.
