Summary: An Intimate Look at The Sound of Music
Comment: Charmian Carr received the opportunity of a lifetime when she was cast as Liesl in The Sound of Music. Her candid transparency in telling what it was like to be a part of making America's favorite movie (topping even Titanic!) is wonderfully refreshing. She brought one of the greatest stories on film down to earth with her enlightening account of what it was like to work with Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and the budding young stars who played her siblings, and yet thrills the reader with her entertaining "behind the scenes" anecdotes. She shares many letters and stories from fans, highlighting the resoundingly significant effect that the Sound of Music has had on people of all ages all over the world, and she brings the real von Trapp family to life as she tells about meeting them and summarizes the actual account of what REALLY happened to them in Austria. This is a wonderful companion to The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp.

Summary: Terrific "Sound of Music" book
Comment: Charmian Carr has written a lovely tribute to this movie, which is one of the great hits in the history of American film. It certainly has a special place in my life, as it has for almost 27 years.
Ms. Carr recognizes the adoration people have for this film, and she writes about it accordingly. What I think is special about her and her authorship of this book, is that she APPRECIATES her fans, fans of the movie, and is quick to acknowledge this in the narrative. I admire this tremendously. So many actors that appear in such a celebrated film shun fans and devotees and regard them as no doubt obsessive and looney. Charmian does none of this. She continously credits viewers of "Music" with its success.
This book is a leisurely read, easy to like, not too long and yet not too short. As a "Music" fan, I personally would have liked it longer, but nevertheless, it is a comprehensive account of one of the masterworks of film musicals.
Thank you, Charmian Carr, for being one of "My Favorite Things" for 35 years!

Summary: A Good Look at the Sound of Music
Comment: This is a very good book for people who want to know what it was like to make Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music.
Charmain Carr gives the reader information about what it was like to make this increadable movie and gives information about what it was like to work with people like Julie Andrews and the six other "Von Trapp" children.
The story is also about Charmain Carr's life. She goes into her childhood as Charmain Farnon in Chicago the middle daughter of a musician and an actress, the move when she was 10 to California and the divorce of her parents a few years later. Charmain then goes into how she got the roll of Liesl and how the producers changed her last name from Farnon to Carr because with a name like Charmain they wanted an uncomplecated last name.
After this Charmain goes into the traveling that she had to do to promote the movie, and then how she met her husband and had two daughters. This leads to the later part of her life a divorced mother of two doing decorating for Michael Jackson and meeting people like Jackie O.
One of the most interestiing parts of the book is in between the chapers. In this part Charmain tells stories that other people have told her about how the Sound of Music changed there lives. Some of them are rather interesting.
