Summary: Good but needs updating.
Comment: I have the previous edition of this book / CD. I was awaiting the next edition (this one); but I am disappointed with the new offerings. As a lot of people use perl or python these days, along with SED and AWK, I was hoping that the new addition would encompass these two topics. I'll wait to see what the 3rd edition is like.

Summary: A must-have LIBRARY for the Unix/Linux NEWBIE and PRO!
Comment: Don't fool yourself into thinking this package is only for Unix professionals. On the contary, you can start out as an absolute newbie with Learning the Unix Operating System, then proceed to Learning the Korn Shell, and then proceed to one of the more advanced level books, such as Learning the vi editor or Unix Power Tools. A motivated individual can go from knowing absolutely nothing, NOT EVEN HOW TO LOG ON, to a Unix Pro with this package alone. I don't know of any other product that can offer that. Of course the pros can always use it as a reference, since it has online search capabilities. Finally, the online layout is very attractive and includes all the illustrations from the print editions.

Comment: Having read a number of books on Operating Systems in General and UNIX in particular, this book shines out in terms of clarity, focus and appeal to a cross section of users- from the hard-boiled pro to someone making a tentative foray in the myriad world of UNIX... I recommend it as a "must-have" ......!
